Intellident enter into Northern Ireland(24/03/09)
Intellident are delighted to announce the first successful implementation of RFID self-service into Northern Ireland with one of the region’s busiest public libraries, Bangor Carnegie, being the first to receive the benefits that from RFID self-service technologies.
Bangor Carnegie had closed 2 years prior to installation in order to undergo a complete rebuild, which merged the original Carnegie Library with a new multi-functional library. AMEY (the PFI Service provider for ICT in libraries in Northern Ireland) provided the library with a full hardware refresh programme, including full MAC suite equipment and replacement of existing desktop PCs.
To compliment the full refurbishment, Bangor Carnegie moved forward to implement the latest in RFID self-service solutions. Following the contract award, Intellident worked in conjunction with The Southern Eastern Education and Library Boards (SEELB, the local authority for education, library and youth services), and AMEY. Under the contract Intellident were chosen for the solution’s intuitive and customisable interfaces, together with the contemporary look and feel of the equipment.
Managed by the Intellident team, the implementation of RFID into Bangor Carnegie public library commenced in October 2008. “From the start of the project, we had a very hands on approach with both the project team at AMEY and the Library project team at Bangor Carnegie.” Delaney Brindle, Project Manager for Intellident, explains: “The library staff had a very clear vision of how they wanted the library to work for members of the public and how they saw self-service kiosks being incorporated into that plan”.
The Intellident Project Management Team devised a strategy to install a combination of systems that would integrate with the modern environment and compliment the library interior. The library received 8 of the contemporary smartServe kiosks, 5 of which were installed into the adult fiction area and children’s library. Significantly, the children’s library within Bangor Carnegie is the first library to receive the aquarium themed Liber8 software, which has been well received by patrons. In addition to the self-service kiosks, Intellident implemented 4 return bins, 2 staff stations and 5 smartGate security systems.
Intellident’s close collaboration with AMEY ensured smooth completion of the project, from initial consultation through to training and installation. The Project Management Team thanks AMEY and all at Bangor Carnegie for their support throughout the deployment.
